The Importance of Hygiene Visits One of the most important reasons
to visit the Dental Group of Meriden-Wallingford is to
have your oral health evaluated by a hygienist. The
major goal of our hygiene staff is the prevention,
diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease. This
starts with the removal of plaque and tartar, which form
on teeth over time. Soft, sticky plaque is easier to
remove with regular brushing, but it hardens into
tartar. Your typical toothbrush and floss can’t do much
to remove tartar, especially where it accumulates below
the gumline. If you don’t remove plaque, you risk the
development of gingivitis and periodontal disease. Also,
dental research has connected untreated gum disease with
some serious health conditions like heart disease,
stroke, and diabetes. Getting your teeth cleaned
regularly is vital to keeping yourself healthy!
